Any particular reason you're running SMF 1.1 RC3 and TP 0.9.6 there?

Hi friends,

I LOVE SMF Forums! I know the software is free to download. I need help with the installation. I registered at www.110mb.com and everything is fine. If you have FREE time, I'll be very happy and thankful to you if you can do the forum installation for me. Yes, there is MySQL and PHP on www.110mb.com. I really want to create a forum where people can share videos, etc and It's gonna be - A NON - PROFIT website. Yes, I'll tell you the password to my account at www.110mb.com, but please don't hack or anything. So, please tell me if you can do the installation for me. I read the manual over 30 times, but I just don't get that PHP and MySQL database stuff. :( :'(

I got my SMF there too and everything's good so far...highly recommended =)

@saboo
1. Go to 110mb.com, login to your account.
2. Go to install/delete database (under file managing the only database thingy)
3. create database user, define database password and then the last create database...
should show something like (example from my account):
user: darkcyntax_dbu
database: darkcyntax_smf
pass: (insert your own pass for database)
4. now somewhere in the middle section there should be selection boxes.
Check that all is selected and remember to apply changes...
5. Now go to file managing and in there to your forum -> install.php
6. I don't start going through everything here so I just go over the mysql (database) related stuff
Ok, in mysql user you insert the same user you did in your database settings for example I got:
darkcyntax_dbu
In mysql database section input your database:
darkcyntax_smf (what I had)
there is one other section in mysql settings and you might think what the hell you put there:
localhost (this should be almost always this)
database password to all sections where it's asked (there were 2 places, one was at the very end)
I'm just remembering this, for detailed explanation I recommend checking 110mb forum.

I already have an SMF website hosted by smfforfree2.com, and I want to use a host that lets you use packages, so how do I use my site for the 110mb.com hosting??

Does 110mb.com support these things? :

Any webserver that supports PHP properly, such as Apache or Internet Information Services (IIS).

PHP 4.1.0 or higher. The following are required to be set correctly in php.ini:
the engine directive must be On.
the magic_quotes_sybase directive must be set to Off.
the session.save_path directive must be set to a valid directory, or empty.
the file_uploads directive must be On.
the upload_tmp_dir must be set to a valid directory, or empty.

MySQL 3.23.28 or higher.
at least 500 kilobytes of storage space in the database, although more is highly recommended.
at least the following privileges: SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, ALTER, and INDEX.
during installation and conversion, the CREATE and DROP privileges.

About six megabytes of storage space on the web server (more for attachments!).

I just wanna know because it's so hard to keep up with the terminologies. Actually, I wanna make my own SMF but I don't know where to go and who are those people who are used to on making smf forums.

Can't say 'bout those, but you can't use the package manager if you got account in 110mb.com (safe mode = on).
Unless you're willing to give your real name, address etc. and wait for response...
That's why I'm changing host ::)

Yepp, but where did you changed to, DarkCyntax ? Cause if you found a better host, i'd appreciate you let me know. I'm using 110mb, too. And yes the package and theme manager dont work, and you've got sendmail off. But if you have 50 posts on 110mb.com forum then you can get fsockopen() so u can use smtp that's better than not to have a mail function. Lately there have been a service upgrade therefore the reg was closed but they put new boxes and upgraded the softwares and now it runs okay for me. 2000mb space no popups and ads, if you find better free host or a cheap paid one let me know. Thanks ;)

There are probably still better hosts out there :P

But for free hosting, you are getting a nice deal for sure,
but are other people able to get that aswell from your brother?

Nope, MySQL is not free on 110MB, you have to pay a 1 time fee of $9.95 to turn on MySQL, but you get unlimited MySQL Users and DBs

The reason they did this was because they have so many users, so many users that free MySQL was just not a smart thing, servers started getting slow. once they did this, it was fast, of course many didn't get SQL back on, but a LOT did, this money helps fund 110MB so they can last longer, and has been probably about one of the oldest and longest running free host, that offers as much as they do :)

However, you can run SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 on SQLite :D

Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob on these Forums.

On Topic - I had heard many bad things about 110mb. One example is the bad uptime. I heard it's around something like 60%, but that's mostly because they actually check your site for illegal things or your breaking the TOS.

Hmm... what does breaking of TOS got to do with bad uptime?
As for the 60% uptime, you get what you "pay" for. ;)

My bad, I meant to put "if"

I should really start proof-reading my posts for stupid errors. Luckily, SMF is awesome enough to spell check for the correct words I put with wrong spelling.
