This router works well with v24 rc7.
There are no special requirements for flashing this router apart from first installing V24 generic mini (or micro) from the Linksys stock firmware web interface, then once it is loaded and restarted, installing the standard generic image. This router does not support MEGA versions of DD-WRT. If you already have an earlier version of DD-WRT installed (for example v23 or a v24 release candidate), you will not be bound by the 3MB firmware size limit imposed by the Linksys stock firmware and may thus flash a standard, voip, or vpn image directly without first doing a mini or micro.
Sign into your linksys router, and use the firmware upgrade web interface to update your router with dd-wrt.
The stock firmware from Linksys on the WRT54GL v1 and 1.1 won't accept a firmware image over 3MB in size (you will get the error: "Upgrade are failed!"(sic) if you try). So you will need to flash the micro or mini versions of DD-WRT onto the router BEFORE flashing the standard, voip, and vpn versions. Make sure you reset the router to factory defaults in dd-wrt before you upgrade to the standard, voip, and vpn versions. (Mega builds will NOT fit on this router)
If you make the mistake of not upgrading with the micro or mini version first, you will end up with a router that has a flashing power light. You will be able to ping the router, but will not be able to access the GUI. You will then have to TFTP the Linksys firmware back on to the router to rescue it and try again to upgrade via the Linksys web interface. You can download the Linksys firmware from their site. You can not TFTP the dd-wrt firmware to recover the router if you initially flashed something other than the micro or mini versions.

I bought a WRT54GL-UK this week....and flashed the firmware. After the flash, the device reboots constantly! Tried soft reset/hard reset. If I disconnect all wired lan connection, and use only wifi....the device is fine. If I kill the radio, then use the wired lan, device is fine. If I enable the radio with the wired lan on.....the device goes insane. Should I be afraid?

No, Matt. You don't need to be afraid. But you need to rever to the micro version, then do a hard reset, then upgrade to standard, then do another hard reset. That should fix the problem with your NVRAM that is likely causing your reboots.

I just bought two WRT54GL routers and after burning them in a couple of weeks, I flashed v24 generic mini onto one of them. I had configured both, so I reset the target router with the software reset from the GUI, then I did the 30 second pushbutton reset because there have been so many warnings. It loaded and works perfectly, although I still cannot find the "use local time" check box. I have continued to read about installation and operation, and I find that I was supposed to hold the reset button for 30 seconds after the successful flash. I did not do that, but it appears to be working fine. My question: What problem (if any) is lurking inside my router because I did not do the after firmware install reset?
DD-WRT makes a decent router into something fantastic.

I tried to upgrade a WRT54G V4 (clearly marked and SN starts with CDFA) but kept getting "Upload are failed!". I then started nosing around and saw that it had v4.3.0 Linksys firmware, whereas I know that the latest for the WRT54G V4 was supposed to be 2.3.1. This was actually a WRT54GL router, cleverly disguised as a WRT54G. I then tried flashing the GL firmware (mini) and it worked. I then tried to flash with the mega and that failed, so flashed it with the standard and it worked. Just something to watch for.

En primer lugar, decir que este router wrt54gl es de lo mejor que puedes comprar a un precio asequible. El motivo es que su hardware es el adecuado y además se distribuye bajo la licencia GPL, con lo que puedes cambiarle el firmware sin ningún problema. Es aquí donde desarrolladores han creado distintos firmware que les sacan todo el jugo a estos routers con nuevas funcionalidades.
Entre muchas otros detalles, se puede configurar como enrutador, acces point, cliente wireless, amplificador de señal wireless, bridge, soporta OSPF, RIPD, posibilidad de virtual Lan's, e infinidad de funciones... En este manual, vamos a armar un router wrt54gl con el nuevo firmware dd-wrt versión 24 en cuestión de 3 minutos. Si las versiones anteriores del dd-wrt ya eran impresionantes, esta nueva versión aún tiene muchas mas mejoras:

Para poner este firmware primero le deberemos instalar un firmware-mini. El motivo es que por defecto no soporta firmware de mas de 3MB. Luego ya podemos instalar el firmware estándar que nos dará todas las funcionalidades al wrt54gl. Podemos descargar estos firmwares en los siguientes enlaces:

Sacamos los componentes de la caja y conectamos el router en nuestra LAN o directamente al PC. El router lo tenemos que conectar a través de uno de los cuatro puertos que hacen de switch, no por el puerto de Internet. No olvidemos conectar el router a la corriente ;)
Configuramos el PC con una IP (pe 192.168.1.9) que esté en la red 192.168.1.1/24. Ahora abrimos el navegador web e introducimos la dirección IP del router que viene por defecto:

Nos dirigimos a la sección Administrator -> Firmware Upgrade. Pulsamos en el botón examinar y buscamos el archivo que contiene el firmware mini. Luego le damos en Upgrade.

Esperamos a que el proceso termine de actualizar el firmware. Puede que tarde unos minutos. Finalmente nos aparecerá la pantalla de administración del router con un nuevo diseño. El motivo es que ya hay instalado el nuevo firmware. (Si no se abre la pantalla vuelve a introducir la URL http://192.168.1.1, si tampoco se abre puede que tengas que resetear el router con el botón de atrás.)

Ahora queremos instalarle la versión estándar que contiene más funcionalidades. Repetimos el proceso. Vamos a la sección Administrator, nos preguntará el usuario y clave, introducimos:

Seguidamente vamos a la sección Firmware Upgrade y seleccionamos el archivo que contiene el firmware estándar. Esperamos unos minutos y ya tenemos el router listo con el nuevo firmware!!!

Instalación en el enrutador WRT54Gv4/WRT54GL
ResponderEliminarSolo las versiones 23 o superior de DD-WRT soportarán el WRT54Gv4. Ni la la instalación de las versiones de DD-WRT std o voip desde el firmware original de Linksys están soportadas (Linksys limitó el tamaño maximo del firmware a 3 MBytes). Por lo tanto, solo la version MINI de DD-WRT puede ser instalada inicialmente. una vez instalada la version mini de DD-WRT, puedes actualizarla a las versiones std o voip. Cuando se usa la Interfaz Web, usa los tipos *_generic.bin al actualizar. Si la interfaz Web no está disponible, usa tftp en combinacion con los archivos *_wrt54g.bin. Recuerda reiniciar el router a los valóres de fábrica antes y despues de flashear.

He releido el procedimiento de instalacion de firmware y usando el 'reseteo de 30 segundos' con el botón en vez de la Interfaz Web y arregló mi problema. No estoy seguro de cual es la diferencia entre un reseteo suave y el por botón pero me quedaré con lo que funcionó para mi.
Hola, intale el firnware y resulto dodo bien, la potencia que es lo que mas me interesa funciono mucho mejor, pero tengo un problema, no puedo compartir el internet desde el, segun veo reconoce los ips de mi moden de internet, pero todos los esquipo conectados al router no pueden navegar !!! alguien saber que tengo que configurar???,, mi correo mincholemus@hotmail.com, gracias
